Insurance companies funded health reform attack ads

In seeking to avoid political and media criticism regarding misleading advertising on the healthcare debate--a la "Harry and Louise" in the 1990s--six large insurers seem to have stepped into another pothole as funds flowed through a conduit that may have funded attack ads on healthcare reform. According to two health care lobbyists familiar with the transactions, between $10 million and $20 million was given to America's Health Insurance Plans by Aetna, Cigna, Humana, Kaiser Foundation Health Plans, UnitedHealth Group and WellPoint.

The funds were funneled to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and may have helped underwrite television attack ads. "There's no question that AHIP has quietly solicited monies from their members which were funneled over to the chamber for their ads," said an anonymous source.

While none of the insurers deny contributing funds to AHIP, Kaiser has come out and stated that it did just that. The insurer, however, says the money they gave was for used positive ads on healthcare reform and that it has assurances that none of the funds went to the chamber.

We would like to THANK insurance companies, the Chamber of Commerce, ALL the Republican Senators and everyone else who may help us defend our country and our future from a Marxist scam like Obamacare.

Kudos to you who posted 1/13 at 7:48 pm!!!!

I was about to post a comment about how sick I was of this newsletter's partisan bias -- and I was about to unsubscribe! But now that I know there are some clear-minded folks out there - I think I'll stick around, so I can join in the celebration when Obamacare is defeated!

Yes, Thank you REPUBLICANS!!! The filibuster threat worked to make each Democrats senator's necessary - so each could hold out for their own corrupt interest - and thus the the medical insurance bill is a screwed up mess. If the Republican been united on stonewalling, and had their constituents interests in mind, the bill might have actually done good for America. It will pass and help the fat cats scalp the tax payers with little real benefit except to the insurance companies. That's what politics is for isn't it?

It's the tyranny of the urgent. I'd prefer longer-term to see AHIP work the with AMA and AHA and collaborate on removing old costly regulation (based on old business practices and technology) that do nothing but employ bureaucrats. Removal would help stimulate innovation and lower costs for all.

You see? The people have spoken -- the election of Brown in Mass. is just the beginning of Obama(care)'s downfall. Yes, the healthcare system in the US needs changes, but it's still the best in the world.
