A federal court has dismissed a whistleblower suit against Iasis Healthcare, alleging that the company allowed doctors to perform unnecessary medical procedures and paid doctors for patient referrals. The suit was filed in 2005 by Jerre Frazier, a former vice president for ethics and compliance for the company. In the suit, Frazier contended that Iasis had, since 1999, received millions of dollars from Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health programs for illegally-compensated inpatient and outpatient referrals. It also contended that doctors performed medically unnecessary interventional cardiology, radiology and other procedures. Frazier plans to appeal the decision.
