Home visits keep diabetics out of hospital

House calls can help keep diabetic patients--a targeted population for quality care and costs savings--out of the hospital, according to a new study published in Health Affairs. Through this prevention program called HouseCalls, researchers found that risk-adjusted hospital days for these Medicare beneficiaries were 19 percent lower per enrollee than fee-for-service enrollees, the National Journal reported. Although the house calls seem to be pricey, researchers said reducing hospitalizations will actually offset those costs. Article
