It's the end of the line for high-profile healthcare exec Richard Scrushy, who was sentenced to almost seven years in prison yesterday for his conviction on federal bribery charges. Scrushy, who now runs a church out of a television studio, continues to deny wrongdoing.

Unlike peers involved in similar scandals at Enron, WorldCom and Tyco, Scrushy actually managed to beat federal charges resulting from the spectacular $2.6 billion accounting fraud at HealthSouth. But Scrushy lost the other case against him, in which federal prosecutors alleged he bribed former Alabama governor Don Siegelman. (Siegelman got jail time, too, as part of the same sentencing.) In addition to serving his sentence, Scrushy will have to pay $417,000 in fines and restitution, serve three years of probation and perform 500 hours of community service once he is released.

Good riddance to another c-level fraudulant healthcare executive who thinks laws and Regulations are for every other individual and company except him. Let him rot. The amount of damage that is done to public confidence in the healthcare industry continues to grow as a result of acts committed by criminals such as Scushy et al. The DOJ's budget for field investigations needs to double. Corporate compliance starts with "tone at the top" and I say bravo to those organizations that really are committed to holding ALL their employees accountable.

I am relieved that the healthsouth rehabilitation main office is being investigated. This message is not to upgrade nor downgrade to be apartof the law suit. Vis a vis, I had the opportunity to be one of their patients in NYC, back in September of 2000.

I was treated like a back sprain patient, I was a 3month post operative patient. I was not improving and the physical therapists made me feel like I was coming to the office to be felt on my the male physical therapist assistant. Healthsouth promoted me to seek health care else where because I could not walk properly, nor did he or she help any.

From september of 2000 to december of 2000, I was being treated for a back sprain and I was a 3 month postoperative spine patient, whom suffered from spinal stenosis.

I feel very proud that an organization did an investigation on this rehabilitation metropolis.
1. they do not have any type of confidentiality from the outside patrons. you can look directly inside of an office.
2. the office, where I was a patient, the staff made me fell as if, I was lying and I did not have surgery. They were giving me exercises as if I had a back sprain. I wrote the rehab office up and e-mailed it to alabama's main office.

Thank the other consumers whom were able to investigate further and seek out their mismanagement.
