Groups urge legislators, president to address healthcare disparities

Sadly, there are often large disparities in between the health outcomes of different minority groups, including higher rates of death from some conditions. Now, with a new president in place, advocacy groups are pushing for a group of legislative options they argue could have an impact on these disparities.

The groups, which include the American Hospital Association and 23 other healthcare and advocacy organizations, argue that equal access to care could be accomplished by offering incentives for appropriate care, more resources and better data collection that would point up disparities in care between minority and non-minority populations.

The coalition also recommends including language to expand the healthcare workforce in minority and other underserved communities.  They also advocate universal coverage.
