Former Alvarado exec charged
August 22, 2006 — 8:01pm ET
More Tenet troubles: Mina Nazaryan, a former exec at Tenet's Alvarado Medical Center who was charged with conspiracy last year, was sentenced to three years' probation and received a $27,000 fine. The sentence is her reward for the part she played in a scheme to give doctors kickbacks in the form of relocation bonuses. Nazaryan could have faced up to 27 months but her sentence was reduced when she agreed to testify against former hospital execs who were also involved in the kickback scandal. In March, Tenet paid a fine of $21 million and also agreed to either sell or shut down Alvarado Medical Center. At one point, HHS even threatened to pull Alvarado's Medicare and Medicaid funding.
