Fla. billing firm charged with $170M Medicare fraud

South Florida's rich trove of Medicare scammers took a hit this week, with the announcement that an area billing company had been charged with fraudulently billing Medicare $170 million. If the feds are right, the company is just one of hundreds of suppliers who aren't keeping their metaphoric noses clean.

The company, R&I Billing, billed Medicare $170 million for HIV drugs between October 2002 and April 2006--$100 million more than it should have, charges HHS and the Department of Justice. The feds say R&I claimed HIV patients were receiving more medications than they actually used.
