Feds raid hospital, clinics for patient records in fraud investigation

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided a Houston psychiatric hospital and its two mental health clinics Thursday, seizing hundreds of patient records in a Medicare fraud probe, the Houston Chronicle reported. FBI and investigators from the Texas Attorney General's office seized files of patients of Westbury Community Hospital and its clinics in southwest Houston and Baytown, looking into whether the hospital or clinic workers paid personal care home owners to recruit residents for treatment.

Although officials have not charged the hospital or its employees, authorities are conducting "law enforcement activity," an FBI spokeswoman said. Jerry Skinner, the hospital's vice president of organization integrity and compliance, said it is the "most compliant group in the entire city."

The recent FBI probe at Westbury is the third in a line of investigations of area clinics offering partial hospitalization program services during the past five months. Article
