Drug tracking system in CA delayed

Despite being the only state in the country to have passed a drug-tracking law that requires electronic tracking of all prescription drugs, California won't see that law go into effect until 2011. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, the state's Board of Pharmacy delayed the law--set to be enforced last year before being delayed until Jan. 1, 2009--another two years. So what implications does the law--initially passed in 2004--have for the state once it goes into effect? Virginia Herold, executive officer of the pharmacy board believes that companies "may decide not to put their drugs on the market in California." The aim of the law is to reduce the number of counterfeit prescription drugs entering the supply chain.
