Doctors hit hospitals for fast-food partnerships

McDonald's has contracts with 18 hospitals across the United States. In addition to serving burgers in the cafeterias, the restaurants host birthday parties and deliver straight to patients' bedsides, according to Yahoo! Food. A recent study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a District of Columbia-based nonprofit organization, found 20 Chick-Fil-As and five Wendy's locations in hospitals, mostly in the South, where obesity rates are disproportionately high. Moreover, hospitals have incentives to help the fast food chains sell more, according to the Physicians Committee report. McDonald's can terminate their lease if they fail to reach a yearly gross of $1 million and McDonald's rent increases with food sales. However, since the Physicians Committee started food reporting, some hospitals have begun removing junk food. Article
