Sure, you've been hearing about a lot of layoffs of late, particularly at hospitals and health plans. Despite this news, the overall healthcare employment outlook is stronger than you might think, according to a newly-released study.

The study, which was conducted by CareerBuilder.com, found that 17 percent of large healthcare employers planned to increase their number of full-time employees in 2009. And that isn't totally surprising, given that the industry grew by 372,000 jobs last year.

In fact, half of respondents said they had positions that remained open because they couldn't find skilled workers. One hot spot for hiring is the IT department: An upcoming CareerBuilder.com survey is expected to indicate that almost 30 percent of respondents across all industries will be hiring in the IT department.
