Despite economy, medical schools expanding rapidly
Comments
The original article is kind of misleading as it applies only to allopathic medical schools (those granting the MD degree). It ignores the almost 30 schools of osteopathic medicine (DO degree). In every state, MD's and DO's both are licensed to practice the full scope of medicine and surgery.
The growth of osteopathic schools has far surpassed the growth of allopathic schools. This is perhaps both good and bad. Some have questioned the ability of the osteopathic schools to maintain quality.
In any event, a news story on medical schools that automatically ignores 20 percent of the schools, is not a news story that was well researched.
AMA represents only 20% of practicing physicians in US. Most physicians refuse to join the organization. Down with AMA!!!
