CT AG investigates medical certification scam artist
The Connecticut attorney general has begun investigating an man who has allegedly been selling phony medical certifications, typically targeting foreign-born physicians unfamiliar with some U.S. regulations.
State AG Richard Blumenthal became aware of the problem when his office received a complaint from the American Board of Internal Medicine, along with 130 additional complaints. The complaining parties said that Keith Alan Lasko was selling certifications under the names of non-existent organizations such as the American Board of Geriatric Medicine and the United States Medical Specialists Federation.
Regardless of whether he's guilty of this offense, Lasko seems like a real piece of work. He is a physician whose license was suspended Illinois, New York and Mississippi after he was disciplined by the Medical Board of California in 1991 for excessive use of diagnostic procedures, gross negligence and incompetence, dishonesty and false billing.
