Concerns about doc's alleged molestation went unheeded
Parents are livid that several red flags raised about their pediatrician's alleged child sexual abuse went ignored until his medical license was suspended in December--after his arrest.
Dr. Earl Bradley, 56, faces up to life in prison after being charged with more than 30 felonies, including rape and exploitation of young children involving seven victims. He was arrested last month after a 2-year-old complained to her mother about Bradley hurting her in a basement room following an exam. Some of his alleged victims were as young as 6 months old, the Associated Press reports.
After a police investigation in 2005, Bradley closed his office in Milford, Del. Police there say they attempted to file a complaint with the state's Board of Medical Practice shortly afterward, but were denied and told that the complaint "needed to come from the victim or her parent."
Bradley's sister Linda Barnes--who worked for Bradley as an office manager--also talked to the state's medical board about her brother in 2005, after alerting police that several parents complained about inappropriate touching. The medical board, though, said it never heard from Barnes.
Now, the state's governor and attorney general are calling for investigations into the matter.
"As a father, I want to assure parents of possible victims that I understand their anguish and anger, and that our office is working with other state agencies to help in any and every way possible," said Del. Attorney General Beau Biden.
