Commonwealth Fund calls for massive healthcare reform

Apparently the Commonwealth Fund has a solution to the nation's healthcare problems. The group is calling for a new national insurance exchange that could cover tens of millions of Americans, decreasing a dependence on private insurance options.

The Fund also wants Americans to depart from the "traditional fee-for-service reimbursement," and instead would like to see bundled payments to hospitals and doctors. Such measures could slow spending growth to 5.5 percent per year, down from the 6.7 percent annual growth rate that is expected over the next 11 years.

Finally, the Fund wants to see more investments in modern technology, and more of a collaborative effort between public and private organizations.

"We really have to fix this system for everyone, not just the uninsured," said James Mongan, president and chief executive officer of Partners HealthCare System in Boston. "Your tax and premium dollars are not being used efficiently."
