Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX), a leading global provider of medical devices for critical care and surgery, has announced that Weck EFx Endo Fascial Closure System has been selected by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) as one of its 2012 Innovations of the Year. The award will be presented at the SLS Annual Meeting September 5-8, 2012 in Boston, Ma. This is the second time a Teleflex product has been chosen for this prestigious award, which recognizes the most innovative products of the past year that have an application in minimally invasive surgery. The first recognition was for the Weck Hem-o-lok Auto Endo5 Ligation System.

The innovative design of the Weck EFx System provides key benefits for the surgeon and patient including a special design for port site closure, and enables reproducible fascial closure in varying body types with a controlled suture delivery. The unique approach to port site closure is designed to minimize complications and costs associated with port-site herniation, allowing the surgeon confidence, clarity and control.

“Teleflex has a strong presence in laparoscopic procedures and the Weck EFx System adds a compelling new product to our complete access line that is designed to improve patient outcomes,” said Jay White, Vice President and General Manager, Surgical Division of Teleflex. “The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons is an esteemed organization, and we are honored by their recognition of a product we are so pleased to offer to healthcare professionals.”
