GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Priority Health President & CEO Kimberly K. Horn today commended the call for the insurance industry to immediately cease rescinding health care coverage. “Priority Health does not drop members when they are most in need of health coverage,” Horn said. “We are proud to stand with Secretary of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius on this important health reform issue.”
Rescission, or the practice of dropping a member’s health coverage due to a medical condition, is prohibited by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The law will not be implemented until September 2010, leaving patients vulnerable to unfair industry practices until then.
“Priority Health opposes the practice of rescission,” said Horn. “We believe in providing all people with access to affordable and excellent health care. We never would – and never have – dropped a member from coverage because of an illness.”
The health care reform law does make an allowance for dropping coverage in the case of fraud.
