PharMerica Launches Enhanced EZ-MAR™, Improved Application for Electronic Medication Administration Record

Nursing Facilities Adopt Technology to Improve Accuracy and Reduce Med Pass Time

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- PharMerica Corporation, a national provider of institutional pharmacy and hospital pharmacy management services, announced today the enhancement of EZ-MAR™, its proprietary medication ordering and electronic medication administration application.

EZ-MAR, a computerized, web-based application, replaces a skilled nursing facility or institutionalized care provider’s paper records with an electronic means of maintaining medical treatment and medication administration records. By centralizing information for drug and treatment delivery and medication ordering, EZ-MAR ensures patient safety. New enhancements include electronic signature functionality, enabling physicians to provide electronic approval for prescriptions, and a pending order function that allows non-licensed nursing staff to put data into the system for licensed users to approve a later time. The enhancements provide additional on-demand convenience and time-savings to busy healthcare professionals.

“The recent enhancements to EZ-MAR speed the communication between our pharmacies and the facilities,” said Gregory Weishar, PharMerica’s CEO. He further stated, “Health information technology can be a strategic asset for nursing facilities. It can transform care while providing substantial economic value. EZ-MAR uses visual identifiers such as patient photo, pain graphs and alerts to ensure patient safety and improve staff efficiency.”

Since being introduced in 2006, more than 350 million medication administrations have been completed using PharMerica’s EZ-MAR system. To learn more, view the product video or visit the company’s website at www.PharMerica.com.
