PFCD Briefing on Hill Highlighted Delivery System Reform and Prevention Models in the States

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) hosted a briefing at the Capitol Visitor’s Center which featured health care providers, state health officials and prevention/wellness professionals. The briefing covered delivery system reform efforts in the states and other provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) such as the Prevention and Wellness Fund.

“Existing state models for prevention like the ones presented today provide a road map to how we can marry proven results with necessary reforms that will not only improve patient outcomes but also drive down costs for taxpayers,” said Dr. Ken Thorpe, Executive Director of PFCD.

Today’s panel of experts included:

  • Ken Thorpe, PhD, Executive Director, PFCD
  • Craig Jones, MD, Executive Director, Vermont Blueprint for Health
  • Erika Bliss, MD, Family Physician, Qliance Medical Group
  • Jim Pope, MD, Chief Science Officer, Healthways
  • Francois Millard, Senior Vice President, The Vitality Group

The briefing highlighted delivery system reform efforts supported by provisions in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act already at work in the states. Many in the states have already implemented programs like those envisioned in the Act and are already working to improve health outcomes and lower costs.

“Not every wheel needs to be reinvented in health care reform implementation,” said Thorpe. “Thanks to visionary programs already at work in the states, we are able to discern how these reforms will realistically be carried out. Today, we have succeeded in bringing together leaders from around the country who are succeeding in doing just that.”
