BOSTON, MA (September 14, 2010) - Amid growing concern over the relationship between the health care industry and continuing education programs for physicians, Lighthouse Learning, LLC was formally launched today as a new, fully independent provider of medical education for physicians.
The company will offer a national curriculum in medicine spanning 12 major specialties: cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics & gynecology, oncology, psychiatry, pulmonary medicine, and rheumatology. Recognized clinician-educators - leaders with the strongest national reputations in these areas of medicine from institutions including Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic and Stanford University School of Medicine - will oversee the development of education programs as Curriculum Directors.
Unlike existing medical education organizations, Lighthouse Learning receives no commercial support for the development of its curricula - the company is funded exclusively by the sale of curricula to medical societies, insurance companies, professional meetings companies, healthcare organizations and other entities.

Lighthouse Learning, under the leadership of President and CEO Jon D. Leibowitz, Dr. Samuels as Director of Medical Education and Susan F. Pioli as Vice President for Program Recruitment and Development, is guided by an Advisory Board of distinguished, nationally known physicians in academic medicine. Lighthouse Learning is currently developing its application for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), with provisional accreditation status anticipated by July 2011. In the interim, it will provide credit for participants in its education programs through joint sponsorship with nationally recognized, fully accredited entities.
