Executives Discuss Industry Growth and Local Health Information Technology Companies’ Impact on National Healthcare Initiatives
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick today visited the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based offices of NaviNet, America’s largest real-time healthcare communications network. Following a tour and meeting with NaviNet executives, Governor Patrick and NaviNet representatives discussed growth in the health information technology (HIT) industry. NaviNet executives also discussed the role local HIT companies, including NaviNet, have had in national healthcare initiatives.
NaviNet is a fast-growing, industry-leading healthcare communications firm that offers innovative Web technologies to connect key healthcare stakeholders – providers, payers, government organizations and patients – in real-time. NaviNet and HIT companies across Massachusetts have brought to market new solutions that boast rapid adoption to further ease healthcare communication challenges and ensure that providers have comprehensive patient information and tools to make well-informed care decisions.
Governor Deval L. Patrick said:
“Just last month Massachusetts added over 19,000 private sector jobs, the largest monthly gain in 20 years and the sixth straight month of strong job gains - in large part because of companies like NaviNet that continue to innovate, grow and expand. With the help of businesses like NaviNet and countless others across the Commonwealth, we will continue to emerge from this global recession stronger and faster than the rest of the nation and build a stronger and brighter Commonwealth for a generation to come.”
Earlier this year NaviNet CEO Brad Waugh participated in a CEO roundtable, hosted by Governor Patrick, about HIT’s role in lowering costs, spurring economic growth and serving communities.
Brad Waugh, NaviNet CEO, said:
“At NaviNet, we’ve seen substantial growth over the past five years, which has translated into job opportunities and economic growth in our home state of Massachusetts. However, investing in health information technology is about much more than creating jobs – it is about improving the quality of care that providers are able to deliver to their patients. As our nation's leaders have made clear through this year's health reform and last year's stimulus legislation, HIT investments are critical to reducing the cost of healthcare and improving its delivery. HIT vendors must continue to drive innovation that ensures that we reach the promise of those goals. NaviNet's widespread adoption by providers across the country will play an important and increasing role in exchanging health information to better coordinate care, and we are proud to lead the way from our headquarters in Massachusetts."
