LaserBand Offers VA Hospitals Superior Blood Band Solution That Complies with New Veterans Health Administration Transfusi

LaserBand Offers Unique Combination of Features Not Available in Other Products

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Veterans Administration hospital personnel needn’t look further than LaserBand’s FusionBand® product as they work to comply with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) Directive 2011-011.

Issued on March 4, the directive requires all Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals to safeguard patient safety during transfusions by ensuring accurate identification of the patient, the blood sample and the blood components. Key to transfusion safety is the requirement that each patient be issued an ID wristband with his or her full name, social security number (SSN), and a barcode displaying the full SSN. In addition, a label attached to the bloodwork must carry the same patient information.

LaserBand’s specially designed FusionBand® blood band is the perfect ID solution for VA hospitals—or any hospital striving to provide patients with optimum safety and comfort,” said Mark Greer, Vice President of Product Development.

The FusionBand® blood band’s patented self-laminating design protects the patient’s full name, SSN and barcode from common hospital chemicals, ensuring readability by staff and scanners throughout the patient’s stay. At the same time, the unique design incorporates wristband and labels into the same form, allowing simultaneous printing of both. This prevents mix-ups that can occur when patient identifiers are printed on separate wristband and label forms.

Greer said, “We’re proud that FusionBand® thermal wristbands scored 100 percent on water resistance and readability on a six-week wristband trial at the Denver Department of Veterans Affairs last year. We welcome the opportunity that the new VHA directive offers us to introduce our products and expertise to the management and staff at VA hospitals across the country.”
