IntelliDose and Allscripts Partnership Gains Momentum

Six Oncology Treatment Centers Integrate Clinical Oncology Management Software into EHR Systems, for Powerful Patient Data Sharing

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Six oncology centers across the country are adding IntelliDose® software for oncology-specific functions to their Allscripts™ Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. These sites – a range of community hospital, private practice, health system and multi-specialty settings – demonstrate the strong demand for a clinical oncology solution since Allscripts’ partnership with IntelliDose was signed last year.

Relative to other areas of healthcare, chemotherapy treatment is an extremely complicated process, with an untenable risk of human error in manual dose calculations and hand-written orders. Designed by oncologists for the unique needs of the specialty, IntelliDose gives oncologists the tools they need to manage chemotherapy electronically and share detailed patient cancer care information across the broader enterprise.

Allscripts customers Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center (DHNCC) Kingsbury Pavilion, Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene, California Cancer Specialists Medical Group (dba City of Hope Medical Group) and Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment (JACC) Center Covenant Health System are live and successfully using IntelliDose integrated with Allscripts. Cornerstone Health Care and Summit Medical Group are among the customers poised to launch their IntelliDose systems early this year.

“We’re a multi-specialty facility and we do a lot of work with our affiliated community and teaching hospitals so we need to share patient information. IntelliDose meets the needs of our oncology specialty – and it standardizes so much,” said Steve Larmon, M.D., medical director, DHNCC a New Hampshire community hospital.

Each of these customers benefits from the integration between IntelliDose and Allscripts, which results in bringing oncology more completely into the larger health network through the Allscripts EHR.

“We’re seeing a true groundswell of demand for patient information sharing among all specialties and affiliates – which means bringing together sometimes several IT systems. A system’s ability to integrate with others means that specialties and specific roles can tap best-of-breed software, while fully participating in the continuum of care,” said Jeff Forringer, president of IntrinsiQ®, maker of IntelliDose.

Allscripts is one of the leading connected healthcare platforms in the industry, providing a wide assortment of electronic healthcare products and services, including EHR and ambulatory systems. 180,000 physicians in 1,500 hospitals depend on Allscripts to manage their health care services. IntelliDose’s integration into these systems benefits this larger network, as oncologists take advantage of a clinical solution designed for their needs.

“Our decision to select IntelliDose was easy. We wanted to extend the benefits of Allscripts and the oncologists needed a solution to complete their goal of automating the management of chemotherapy. Our primary goal was to improve patient safety through automated dosing and better communication with the pharmacy, but we also like the many efficiencies it will bring to our oncology office,” said Tim Terell, CIO at Cornerstone Health Care, a major North Carolina health system with over 75 sites and 290 physicians.

“IntelliDose has simplified the process of chemotherapy patient management and allowed the physician ultimate control of the process. Its ability to integrate with our other systems contributes to the quality of healthcare we deliver, every day,” said Amy Plemons, R.N., B.S.N., director of clinical operations for the California Cancer Specialists Medical Group (dba City of Hope Medical Group) a Los Angeles area cancer center.
