Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program Names New Director of Accreditation Services

Beverly Robins to support HFAP policy development and operations

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In its second executive appointment within a month, Chicago-based Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) today named Beverly Robins director of accreditation services. HFAP is the nation’s oldest hospital accreditation organization, authorized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to accredit healthcare facilities since Medicare’s start in 1965. At HFAP, Ms. Robins will be responsible for helping to establish and implement HFAP policy, as well as oversee surveyor training and placement. She will report to HFAP’s new chief operating officer, Joseph Cappiello, whose appointment was announced September 26. Ms. Robins most recently served as director of nursing ambulatory care at the University of Chicago. Previously, she served for eight years as the Joint Commission’s field director of ambulatory care. She took her post at HFAP on October 17.

“I’m thrilled to have someone of Ms. Robins’ caliber join our organization,” said Michael J. Zarski, CEO of HFAP. “Healthcare delivery is evolving at breakneck speed, and so is the accreditation process. Bringing Beverly and Joe onboard – two seasoned accreditation experts – demonstrates HFAP’s commitment to staying at the front of that curve. Combining education with rigorous assessment, HFAP will continue to help hospitals meet swiftly evolving quality standards.”

Most recently, Beverly Robins served as the University of Chicago Medical Center’s director of nursing ambulatory care, where she was responsible for nursing practice in its outpatient and procedural clinics. From 2002 to 2010, she was field director of the ambulatory care program for The Joint Commision. In that role, she managed the organization’s team of ambulatory care surveyors that surveyed in more than 40 settings, representing more than 1,900 accredited organizations in the surgery/anesthesia, medical/dental and diagnostic/therapeutic categories. She served as the Joint Commission’s content expert for ambulatory care across areas including office-based surgery, deemed status ASCs, sleep centers, the Department of Defense, system surveys, convenient care, urgent care, free-standing emergency departments and telemedicine.
