Reform Focused on Innovation in Service Delivery, Breaking Rising Cost Trend for Businesses

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Healthcare Delivery Innovation Alliance (HDIA), a non-profit membership organization representing a coalition of private sector and non-profit leaders in healthcare, technology and other industries, today announced a national charter and agenda to develop certification standards for healthcare delivery models that promise to improve the healthcare experience while lowering costs for businesses and patients.

Healthcare reform in America today is centered on reforming healthcare financing, not on the delivery of healthcare services. HDIA members support the cause that true healthcare reform is focused on improving service delivery and the cost and experience associated with it. Members have come together to identify and advance the principles for a new healthcare service model that will expand access, lower cost over both the short and long-term and improve the relationship between the patient and the healthcare provider.

“This is an important area of healthcare reform that is not on the national agenda today but should be,” said Bob Fabbio, HDIA Chairman and CEO of WhiteGlove Health. “By working together, we can change the way healthcare is delivered and make competitive, low-cost access to a high-quality healthcare experience a standard for a healthier world. I look forward to working with our Members to develop a comprehensive set of standards that can help policymakers and businesses lower costs and deliver quality care.”

In September, the Executive Board met at the Health 2.0 Conference in San Francisco to ratify the charter and set goals for the standards document. HDIA members include Dave Chase, CEO Avado, Dr. Jason Hwang, Co-founder and Executive Director, Healthcare for the Innosight Institute, Steve Idoux, Vice President Lockton, Scott Blount, Vice President Lancaster Pollard, Todd Perman, Senior Vice President Healthcare Properties Group, Grubb & Ellis, William H. Rice, Senior Vice President Clinical Innovation St. David’s Healthcare, Tim Knettler, CEO American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Robert F. Graboyes, MSHA, Ph.D., Senior Fellow for Health and Economics, NFIB Research Foundation, Nora Belcher, Executive Director of Texas E-Health Alliance and the State of Texas.

Said David Chase, CEO of Avado and HDIA founding member, “Proof, standards and education are critical to accelerating the growth of these exciting new models. The Alliance is inviting organizations to join their movement. While welcoming any organization that is sincerely driving innovation, HDIA is particularly interested in employers who share the interest in reversing health care's hyperinflation. Naturally, if employers (who pay for the majority of health care) signal to the market that they are going to buy from health care delivery models that are really making a difference, it will accelerate the growth of these models.”

Members will spend the next month analyzing and completing the framework by which the standards for certification are measured and delivered. The Alliance is planning a December event in Dallas,Texas for employers and those interested in the innovation of healthcare delivery. A membership information form and a draft of the organization’s charter are available on HDIA’s web site at www.HDIA.org.
