and the Georgia Department of Community Health announced today the launch of a statewide health information exchange (HIE) network, known as the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN).

The GaHIN utilizes Truven Health to provide clinicians throughout the state with a longitudinal patient history at the point of care by securely capturing real-time clinical and administrative data from electronic medical records, healthcare claims, Georgia Medicaid, Public Health Georgia Registry for Immunization Services (GRITS) and many other sources.

“Implementing a statewide health information exchange network brings us closer to our goals for improving care, reducing healthcare costs, and streamlining communication throughout our state’s healthcare organizations,” said Kelly Gonzalez, Chief, DCH Division of Health IT, and the Georgia State Health IT coordinator. “We are very excited about the launch of the GaHIN.”

The Truven Health platform is powered by CareEvolution and implements advanced industry standards (for example, NwHIN DIRECT and NwHIN CONNECT - IHE PIX, XDS, XCA/XCPD, and ATNA), to create a tailored exchange for healthcare stakeholders throughout Georgia.

"We are pleased to partner with the Georgia collaborative on this health information network, which enables unparalleled interoperability between hospitals and providers,” said Mike Boswood, Truven Health Analytics president and CEO. “The GaHIN gives care providers the information they need to make the critical decisions that will result in improved clinical outcomes.”
