TORRINGTON, Conn. and WARMINSTER, Pa., Feb. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH), a 109-bed, general acute care hospital, recently announced an agreement with MobileMD, Inc., a leading health information exchange vendor, to provide state-of-the-art health information exchange (HIE) and certified, interoperable electronic health record (EHR) systems to CHH and its healthcare community.
"The use of integrated information technology and electronic medical record systems make it easier and more cost effective for a community of health care providers and other support organizations to better manage patient care at the local level, statewide and nationally, through secure use and sharing of health information and services," commented CHH Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Director of Informatics Jim Albert.
"Electronic health records provide a number of advantages to patients and healthcare providers like Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, including access by doctors to a more complete, historical health picture of a patient, better and more timely communication and care coordination and fewer repetitive tests as providers share information across the community, ultimately saving valuable time and resources as well as improving outcomes and quality. Furthermore, we chose to partner with MobileMD because they offer one of the most advanced and cost effective HIE solutions on the market and will soon offer an integrated, certified EHR-lite product as well," he said.
With the integration of MobileMD's 4DX™ Healthcare Information Exchange, the hospital intends to officially achieve "meaningful use" of electronic health records and register for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). CHH is one of a handful of Connecticut hospitals that will be eligible for the first round of payments under the federal reimbursement program.
"We are very excited to partner with Charlotte Hungerford," said Chief Executive Officer of MobileMD Todd Fisher. "Their vision and strategy to leverage information technology to improve patient care and operational efficiency is very progressive and consistent with our view of the future state of Healthcare IT.
"Specifically, they see the inherent value of a networked community – value to the hospital, the community providers, and most importantly, the patients they serve. Our Health Information Exchange offering will provide Charlotte Hungerford the community or social components required to serve their vision: connectivity, community clinical data aggregation, ambulatory EHR, patient access, and analytics," he said.
