Congress reaches tentative doc fix

The sustainable growth rate (SGR) could be decided by the end of the week before Congress goes on break, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) said yesterday. The 27 percent Medicare pay cut has had physicians--who are only two weeks away from the reductions--trembling about the reimbursements' effects on patient care. Republicans wanted to postpone the pay cuts for 24 months, while Democrats pushed for 10 months, Reuters reported. Congress is unlikely to permanently repeal the reimbursement mechanism, although both sides of the aisle may compromise on a short-term solution of a 12-month postponement, Kyl said. Article
