The latest mobile apps to gain popularity aren't just addictive games or social network-focused--health payers have recognized the importance of mobile apps for their members and are busy developing them to tailor various age groups and needs.

From busy mothers and fathers on the go needing to check the status of their claims to members trying to lose weight or keep track of their exercise habits, payers are using mHealth to reach and engage members like never before.

In this special report, FierceHealthIT spoke with officials from Philadelphia-based Independence Blue Cross, Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente and Minneapolis, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare about how they're using mobile tools to engage members and lower costs--and what they've got up their sleeves for future mHealth initiatives.
