The accused: Michael Gowder, CEO of Union General Hospital
The place: Blairsville, Georgia
The charges: Gowder was among six staffers at the 45-bed hospital arrested in February as part of a longstanding prescription drug scheme. Police said Gowder accepted thousands of prescriptions for pain medications. One doctor charged alongside Gowder wrote 15,000 prescriptions for oxycodone over a three year span.
The outcome: The Union General Hospital board placed Gowder on leave the day of his arrest, it said in a statement. He has since been fired. Gowder was indicted on the prescription drug charges in early March, reports wdef.com, and posted bond. The case is ongoing.
