The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is reaching out to bring family caregivers into the fold with a pilot program called Clinic-in-Hand that's kicking off this year. It plans to hand out more than 1,000 iPads to caregivers as part of a plan to improve communication between families, patients and healthcare providers. The iPads will have VA apps, a mobile EHR and other mobile resources.
And in an effort to help military families cope with their own mental health concerns, the U.S. Department of Defense has created a mobile app dubbed LifeArmor. The tool includes information, assessments, videos with personal stories and interactive exercises on 17 topics, including alcohol and drugs, anger, anxiety, military sexual trauma, sleep and work adjustment.
