Why she's a leader to watch: Verily Life Sciences leads Alphabet's healthcare and life sciences research with a focus on developing tools to collect and organize health data. The larger goal is to create interventions and platforms that put data insights to use for more holistic care management, according to the company. Verily brought Jessica Mega, M.D., on board to translate technological innovations and scientific insights into partnerships and programs that improve patient outcomes. She oversees all of Verily's clinical and science efforts, including the Baseline Study.

Verily recently partnered with life insurance company John Hancock to offer a life insurance solution and digital wellness program to help people with diabetes manage and improve their condition.

In her work as a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and a medical researcher, Mega explored novel cardiovascular therapies and using genetics to tailor therapies to patients. Leading Verily's clinical efforts builds on her interest in the use of technology to solve complex health problems, she told FierceHealthcare.
