Overprescribing doc sentenced 30 years to life in prision

Setting a new precedent for the punishment of inappropriate painkiller prescribing, Hsiu-Ying "Lisa" Tseng, D.O., has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison, according to an Associated Press article via STAT. "(She's) a person who seemingly did not care about the lives of her patients in this case but rather appeared more concerned about distributing dangerous controlled substances in an assembly line fashion so as to collect payments, which amounted to her amassing several million dollars," said Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge George Lomeli, who handed down the sentence. Although 12 of Tseng's patients died after being prescribed high amounts of powerful painkillers, she was charged with just three murders because other factors were involved in the other deaths, according to the article. She was also charged with illegally writing prescriptions for two of the deceased patients and 16 other people, including three undercover agents, the Associated Press reported. Article
