OptumHealth’s Philadelphia and San Diego Behavioral Healthcare Advocate Centers Awarded Full NCQA Accreditation

Designation Highlights OptumHealth’s Ongoing Commitment to Providing Access to High-Quality Care

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- OptumHealth announced today that it has again received Full Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organization (MBHO) Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its Care Advocate Centers in San Diego and Philadelphia. NCQA Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to assess the quality of MBHOs. OptumHealth’s Care Advocate Centers received the highest rating awarded by NCQA.

The Care Advocate Centers receiving MBHO Accreditation were OptumHealth’s U.S. Behavioral Health Plan, California — based in San Diego — and United Behavioral Health, Philadelphia.

“OptumHealth’s MBHO Accreditation for its San Diego and Philadelphia Care Advocate Centers demonstrates that it’s an organization working hard to coordinate care and provide access and good customer support,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president. “It’s a sign that OptumHealth is focused on improving the behavioral health of its members.”

NCQA reviews include rigorous on and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A national oversight committee of physicians and behavioral health providers analyzes the team’s findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the MBHO’s performance compared to NCQA standards.

The Care Advocate Centers were evaluated for quality in seven categories, including: Quality Management and Improvement, Utilization Management, Credentialing and Recredentialing, Members’ Rights and Responsibilities, and Preventive Behavioral Health Care Services. The evaluation indicated that the San Diego and Philadelphia Care Advocate Centers provided superior service in all categories.

“Making health care more accessible to patients as well as more affordable and effective are our ultimate goals,” said Rhonda Robinson Beale, M.D., chief medical officer for OptumHealth Behavioral Solutions. “NCQA Accreditation provides us with further validation that at OptumHealth we are achieving these goals.”

OptumHealth holds three-year, Full NCQA MBHO Accreditation in Care Advocate Centers throughout the United States including, Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Houston, San Diego and Portland.
