Phil Dalton, president and CEO of , shared his thoughts regarding new opportunities for independent practice associations in an era of clinical integration and population health management at the Hospital & Physician Leadership Summit held October 13-15 in Scottsdale, AZ. The event was attended by healthcare and physician executives from around the country who gathered to explore strategies for successful hospital/physician relationships in the changing healthcare environment.

“While many physicians are seeking employment in medical groups, hospitals and health plans, there are still a great many physicians who are committed to maintaining their independence,” Dalton told conference attendees. “For those physicians IPAs (independent practice associations) can provide the structure and means for participating in ACO models and driving value-based care coordination.” His presentation then went on to discuss the role of IPAs in supporting risk-bearing arrangements, ACO development, population health management and shared savings.

Sharing the podium with Dalton was Douglas Allen, M.D., vice president of integration at Davita Healthcare Partners. Just two weeks before Dr. Allen had been one of the speakers at MDS Consulting’s 8 annual Healthcare Leadership and Executive Conference in Las Vegas.

Dalton brought to his presentation more than 25 years of experience in healthcare strategy, policy, planning and business development. Over that time Dalton has worked with hundreds of healthcare organizations and is today one of the industry’s best-known thought leaders and sought-after speakers regarding physician/hospital integration and evolving healthcare business models.
