Internal medicine board joins groups looking to overhaul MOC process

Less than a week after the American Board of Anesthesiology announced that it would replace its 10-year maintenance of certification (MOC) exam with continuous online testing next year, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has revealed the possibility of similar plans, Medscape Medical News reported. MOC requirements in many specialties have been under fire recently as being under-relevant and over-burdensome to physicians. The ABIM's proposed switch to online testing is just one of several recommendations to relax its MOC program. Cardiologist Paul Teirstein, M.D., told Medscape that the task force recommendations are "all very positive," but the devil will be in the details of what ABIM finally decides. "I don't think we're through reshaping the MOC process." Article
