Drug crisis antidote: Better reimbursement for methadone clinics

A Senator from Maine is proposing the state provide more public funding for methadone clinics in order to effectively treat opiate addiction, according to the Portland Press Herald. If Sen. David Woodsome's (R-York) bill is approved, the state's 10 methadone clinics would see an increase in weekly reimbursement rates from $60 to $80 per patient. The newspaper reported that Maine had 71 heroin overdoses through the first nine months of 2015 compared with 57 in all of 2014. The state also saw an increase in the number of people seeking treatment for opioid addictions. Article
