The ACE Group today announced that Caroline Clouser, Executive Vice President and Practice Leader, and Diane Doherty, Vice President, both of ACE Medical Risk Group, will participate in a session with Dick Sem, President and CEO of Sem Security Management, discussing the emerging risk of violence in hospitals. This session will take place at the annual American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) Conference to be held in San Antonio, TX, on October 29, 2013.

Commenting on this opportunity, Ms. Clouser said, “Violence in public settings continues to make headlines across the country and hospitals are not immune from these events. Aggression can emerge from many sources, such as patients, their family members, hospital staff or even an outsider, adding to the pressures faced by risk managers and board members to ensure patient safety and quality care by mitigating this type of emerging risk. I’m pleased to be able to participate in this session in an effort to raise awareness and provide education to healthcare risk managers on the exposure of workplace violence that exists, and to provide strategies that will help their organizations develop a comprehensive plan to address potential future risks.”

Ms. Doherty added, “Our goal in presenting this topic is to not only promote awareness that violence in healthcare facilities is on the rise, but to identify and recognize that unforeseen events and circumstances can and often may occur at any point in time. Through this session, we will help risk managers take an honest look at their current prevention planning strategies, and educate them on the importance of having a Violence Prevention Program, one that is specific to their organization, analyzes potential safety hazards and implements strategies to address them. Each participant will walk away with recommendations on how to reassess their current program to address any potential weakness at their facility and ultimately create a safer environment for their patients, staff and visitors.”
