WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP), a leader in innovative health benefits solutions and medical and specialty plans through its subsidiary companies, has won two coveted Brandon Hall awards for excellence. WellPoint’s Compass New Hire Program was honored with a Gold Award in the Best Sales On-boarding Program category and a Bronze Award in the Best Program for Sales Training and Performance category. This is the first year WellPoint has been honored with two Brandon Hall awards.
WellPoint offers the eight week Compass New Hire Program quarterly to commercial sales associates. The training program incorporates various training techniques that include face-to-face instruction, virtual classrooms and the flexibility of a self-paced format. Frequent communications and online discussion boards foster an interactive learning environment for all participants.
“WellPoint was able to reduce its new hire program from 30 weeks to eight weeks, decrease the frequency of checkpoints from 23 conference calls to six discussion board check-ins, and significantly cut the cost per class without compromising the quality of the program,” said Jennifer Hammond, director of learning, WellPoint, Inc. “We not only saw higher participation in the program, we saw improved key performance indicators.”
“Our redesigned program now provides the foundation to help acclimate new associates to the company and develop core competencies in management teams - a recipe for sustained success,” said Ken Goulet, WellPoint executive vice president for Employer, Medicaid, Individual and Specialty Business. “The two Brandon Hall awards highlight the quality of our program.”
The entries were evaluated by a panel of veteran and independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Groups senior analysts and executive leadership, based upon the following criteria: fit the need, design of the program, functionality, innovation and overall measurable benefits.
