UnitedHealthcare Opens Newest “Pop Up” Store in Kingsport Town Center – Providing Medicare Info and Enrollment Support

Licensed sales agents available throughout Medicare Annual Election Period to answer questions and guide beneficiaries through enrollment process

KINGSPORT, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In a unique approach to serving the more than 112,000 Medicare beneficiaries in the Kingsport area, UnitedHealthcare will operate a storefront in the Kingsport Town Center Mall throughout Medicare’s Annual Election Period (AEP), Oct. 15-Dec. 7.

The outlet will provide convenient, direct access to licensed sales agents who can answer beneficiaries’ questions and help them choose Medicare coverage that best meets their needs.

Within the store, Medicare-eligible people and their caregivers can access resources to help them understand the Medicare program. Store visitors can learn more about Medicare through printed materials and interactive videos created as part of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Made Clear campaign. The videos and other free resources available at the store are designed to educate and empower beneficiaries to make informed health care decisions.

According to a recent survey from UnitedHealthcare and the National Council on Aging, only 9 percent of seniors surveyed knew that the AEP will start one month earlier this year, on Oct. 15. Even fewer – only 3 percent – were aware that the deadline has moved up three weeks, to Dec. 7. The survey also found that more than half of respondents ages 60 and over described Medicare as confusing or reported that they do not understand the program at all. At the rate of 10,000 per day, nearly 4 million baby boomers are aging into Medicare this year, creating an even greater need for education and information. The UnitedHealthcare store will be open throughout the AEP, helping to increase awareness of the change in enrollment dates and help first-time enrollees understand their plan options.

“Our goal is to offer Medicare beneficiaries an easier and more convenient way to get the information they need to make more informed health care coverage decisions,” said Dale Cutler, executive director of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement in Tennessee. “This store demonstrates our commitment to the more than 112,000 Medicare beneficiaries in the Kingsport community.”

The UnitedHealthcare store will be open through mid-December from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Kingsport Town Center Mall is located at 2101 Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport.
