UnitedHealth: Payments for 11 million customers tied to value-based care

In light of the Department of Health and Human Services plan to tie 50 percent of Medicare reimbursements to value-based care by 2018, UnitedHealth told Healthcare Finance News that 11 million of its customers are covered under value-based payment programs. All told, UnitedHealth paid out $36 billion to physicians in value-based care reimbursements in the last three years and expects that figure to hit $65 billion by 2018. In addition, the insurer expects to partner with as many as 250 accountable care organizations this year, on top of the 520 ACOs with which it already works. Article
