Revere America Applauds Florida Judge's Ruling Against Mandated Insurance

Grassroots Giant Supports Repeal and Replacement of the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Marianne R.P. Zuk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Revere America, issued the following statement in reaction to U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson's ruling Monday that the individual mandate to buy insurance is unconstitutional, thereby declaring President Obama's entire health care overhaul void.

"In today's ruling, Judge Vinson became the second federal judge to reinforce what our 1.1 million repeal petition signers -- and most Americans -- already believe: that the federal government exceeded its authority when it put the health care reform in place last year. According to Judge Vinson, the Constitution simply does not provide the federal government the authority to require its citizens to purchase government-approved health insurance under penalty of law. Perhaps as important was the Judge's finding that the coverage mandate is 'not severable,' or in other words, cannot be removed without invalidating the entire statute.  We are encouraged that Judge Vinson's opinion is consistent with our recently filed Amicus Brief in another pending challenge to the constitutionality of the individual mandate." Zuk cautioned, "While this ruling is a tremendously significant, but temporary victory for the millions of Americans who have opposed this ill-conceived health care law from the start, we at Revere America know that while we await the U.S. Supreme Court's ultimate determination, we must push for the Senate to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and for Congress to replace it with laws which improve access to care while containing costs, encouraging innovation and protecting the doctor patient relationship."
