Radio Disney AM 1460, part of the #1 radio network for kids, tweens and families, and Empire BlueCross will team up for the 3rd consecutive year to promote the importance of childhood health and wellness through the , which is open to kindergarten through sixth grade schools across the greater Albany area. In 2011, more than 500,000 elementary school students across seven states participated in the program.

Designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities, participants in the challenge should “get active and get fit” for at least 20 minutes every day—or as often as possible. In order to successfully complete the challenge, students must be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days in the challenge, which runs from Oct. 1, 2012 through Nov. 24, 2012.

“Last year, we had more than in upstate New York join ,” said Ethel Graber, VP and GM for Upstate Sales at Empire BlueCross. “I’d say that’s a reminder that kids naturally enjoy exercise, and a little competition between schools is a very positive way to keep them active. We’re hoping this school year will be even more successful.”

Registration for the 2012 program opened Aug. 13 and ends Sept. 28. All schools that send in their results at the end of the Challenge will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of five gym equipment packages worth $500. Schools with the highest participation will be awarded Radio Disney dance parties.
