Prime Therapeutics announces new solution for Medicare plan comparison in collaboration with DRX

ST. PAUL, Minn., July 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Prime Therapeutics (Prime), a leading pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), today announced it has implemented PlanCompare, a new solution for Medicare plan comparison. Prime has entered into an agreement with DRX, a leading provider of Medicare Plan comparison tools, technology and data, to offer this service to its members.

DRX's PlanCompare combines data transfer and plan comparison technology to facilitate enrollments and reduce costs. It allows Medicare eligible individuals the ability to compare available Medicare prescription drug plans and health plans within their zip code by entering information into a tool that calculates the total cost comparisons including the premium, out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs, and estimated out-of-pocket medical costs.

"PlanCompare will help members realize significant savings by letting them view and compare cost-effective plans from an array of plan options," said Rachel Henely, vice president of government programs. "Our relationship with DRX will allow us to continue offering information about high-quality, evidence-based solutions that benefit both our health plan clients and their members."

Prime began offering its health plan clients a private-labeled version of DRX PlanCompare on April 1, 2012. The technology, which is licensed by the government, leading health plans, PBMs, insurance field marketing organizations, brokers and call centers, has been used by those organizations to help get over 10 million Medicare beneficiaries enrolled. Drug plan comparisons include full prescription drug, formulary and pharmacy pricing.

"Our ability to provide a comparison of total plan costs, rather than just a comparison of premiums, is what sets us apart and allows beneficiaries to realize significant savings on out-of pocket costs. We are excited about our relationship and congratulate Prime on their continued commitment to their clients and members," said Todd Petersen, executive vice president of DRX.
