OIG to target insurance exchange risk areas

Federal health officials yesterday testified before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Health about healthcare reform eligibility issues. The Office of Inspector General said it will enhance its focus on core risk areas associated with the new online exchanges, which include payment accuracy, eligibility systems, contract oversight, data security and consumer protection. To ensure program integrity, the OIG recommended the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services develop a plan to clear the federal marketplace's backlog of inconsistencies, as well ways to monitor, track, and measure progress of those resolutions.
