"The eValue8 Innovations Awards acknowledge plans that have implemented ground-breaking programs to improve member health," said Andrew Webber, NBCH president and CEO. "A healthy and productive workforce is critical to the success of U.S. businesses competing in a global economy and we're proud to recognize the efforts of these plans to improve health and health care."

Health Concierge – Aetna One Premier(R)

Aetna was honored for Aetna One Premier, a program launched in 2009 for members that combines their Aetna benefits into one integrated package and personalizes the services they receive to ensure their health benefits work together. Designed to provide a simplified and more positive member experience, Aetna One Premier offers an integrated and holistic approach to managing health, productivity, and wellness. The program brings together all available benefit programs (medical, disease management, case management, maternity management, behavioral health, employee assistance programs, wellness counseling, disability/absence management, pharmacy and dental) in an integrated environment, from a people, process and technology perspective.

As a result member satisfaction scores have improved, Aetna is communicating more effectively with members and engagement and utilization rates have increased. Further, early results reflect improvements in several important cost, quality and productivity measures.

Behavioral Health Case Management "Triple Aim Program" – Cigna

Cigna was honored for its integrated behavioral health case management program, “Triple Aim.” This innovative, three-pronged program is comprised of intensive case management, bipolar adherence and autism education. It focuses on encouraging individuals with bipolar disorder, autism and people recently discharged from an inpatient mental health facility, to take preventive actions towards personal health empowerment. Interventions from case managers provide individuals access to educational materials and a unique one-on-one collaboration with health care professionals for customized support to fill gaps in care. This unique structure of Cigna's holistic approach to case management for individuals with mental health disorders aims to improve quality, affordability, lower readmittance and mitigate disability.

“Triple Aim Program” results include significant reduction in readmission between those engaged in the intensive case management program and those not-engaged, improvements in medication adherence rates, medication refill rates and number of individuals reached with bipolar disorder and annual cost savings for individuals with autism.

Innovations Awards Finalists

In addition to the two winners, there were three finalists: Aetna for development of payment estimators for both members and providers to promote price transparency and member education, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield for its readmission prevention program and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee for its use of technology to create electronic clinical health communities.
