Medica Research Institute Names Nancy Nachreiner, PhD, MPH, RN, COHN-S to the Position of Investigator

The Medica Research Institute today announced the hire of Nancy Nachreiner PhD, MPH, RN, COHN-S, as an investigator. Her work at the Medica Research Institute will begin on April 1, 2013.

Prior to joining the Medica Research Institute, Nachreiner was Co-Director of the Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Program at the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety/University of Minnesota. She held dual faculty titles at the University of Minnesota to include, Adjunct Assistant Professor/Affiliate Faculty, School of Nursing, and Assistant Professor, Division of Environmental Health Sciences. She will continue as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental Health/University of Minnesota in both teaching and student mentoring roles.

Nachreiner publishes extensively on violence and injury prevention in the workplace, specifically in the fields of health care and educational employment settings. In addition, Nachreiner studies barriers and factors that facilitate the return-to-work experience for employees following cancer treatment.

Throughout her career, she has been recognized by professional and academic organizations for excellence in her field. Nachreiner was named by the Minnesota Association of Occupational Health Nurses (2009) and received the from the Division of Environmental Health Sciences in 2007, among many other honors and distinctions. She has published more than 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has presented her research at regional, national and international academic conferences. Nachreiner also has been active with the Injury Prevention and Control Section of the American Public Health Association, serving as membership chair, section councilor, and a member of various other committees. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Nachreiner chaired the Program Committee for the past three years, and is currently President-Elect.

In her role at the Institute, Nachreiner will develop a research program focused on occupational and environmental health issues, to include cancer survivorship. As part of her research agenda, she will engage employees and employers to explore relevant issues from the perspective of consumers and stakeholders of health and health care. Her research will inform public policy, workforce health guidelines, and health care delivery.
