Magellan Health Services to Present at Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Educational Conference

Magellan to discuss the changing Medicaid landscape and strategies for managing pharmacy costs

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Magellan Health Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: MGLN) will present today during a session at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy’s (AMCP) 2011 Educational Conference in Atlanta. Cynthia J. Pigg, BSPharm, MHA, FAMCP, senior vice president of pharmacy at Magellan Medicaid Administration and a past president of AMCP, will present on behalf of Magellan during a 7 a.m. panel discussion titled “Understanding the Changing Medicaid Landscape.”

“Many states are under incredible pressure as they grapple with smaller budgets and the upcoming changes in the Medicaid population under health care reform,” said Pigg. “The industry is expecting 16 million new lives to become eligible for Medicaid by 2014 and a $25 billion drug spend by 2019. Many of these new recipients will have chronic physical and mental health conditions, and few will have prior experience managing their health, well-being and prescription medications. This is going to create greater demand in pharmacy to manage both care and costs. Our goal is to help states and their stakeholders understand the dynamics at work in order to prepare for the impending changes to how Medicaid pharmacy costs are managed.”

Magellan Medicaid Administration, a unit of Magellan Health Services, delivers unique Medicaid pharmacy solutions to improve the quality of health care for individuals and reduce costs for states. An unmatched combination of specialized health management teams comprising experts in behavioral health, pharmacy and specialty pharmacy work with customers to provide comprehensive pharmacy management with a particular emphasis and experience in mental health and specialty drugs, two of the highest cost categories of medications utilized by Medicaid beneficiaries.

The AMCP conference convenes annually, enabling pharmacy and health care professionals to discuss the issues shaping the management and coordination of clinical, pharmacy benefit, and pharmaceutical care programs.
