Peter Goldstein, CEO of LTCG, has been invited to speak at the Annual Meeting of the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, or NOLHGA, on October 9, 2014. Goldstein will share best practices in administering long term care insurance (LTCI) gained from his years of strategic leadership at LTCG, the recognized leader in business processing outsourcing for long term care. Under his direction, LTCG has become the largest provider of administration to top industry insurers, managing over 1.3 million long term care insurance policies and over 45,000 active claims.

NOLHGA is a national association comprised of life and health insurance guaranty associations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These associations ensure that individual policyholders with covered policies are guaranteed coverage even if their life, health or long term care insurance carrier becomes insolvent. As the LTCI landscape changes with 55% of the active policies in closed blocks, state guaranty associations are actively studying the market to learn more about the complexities inherent in LTCI policies.

“NOLHGA is being proactive in developing contingency plans for covering these types of policies,” said Goldstein. “They recognize that long term care insurance is highly complicated and that the administrative processes required are drastically different than those associated with managing health insurance policies.”

LTCI differs from health insurance in several key ways, particularly because these policies have evolved over the past 30 years and there are literally tens of thousands of policy forms covering a myriad of benefit options and eligibility triggers. The systems necessary to manage this are very complex and different than systems that manage health insurance. Furthermore, a typical health care claim is a transaction, such as a doctor’s visit or surgery. By contrast, the average long term care claim lasts for three years. It is an ongoing episode of care that needs to be managed in a high-touch process that includes the individual, family members and anyone granted power of attorney. Lastly, the LTC provider universe is still almost exclusively paper based compared to the electronic world of health care claims.

Goldstein will be able to leverage his experience at LTCG to speak about these issues, as his company has developed many enhanced capabilities in both policyholder administration and claims management to improve the policyholder experience and administer the policy more efficiently within contractual obligations.

The NOLHGA 31 Annual Meeting will take place October 8-9, 2014 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront in San Diego, California.

The National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations (NOLHGA) is a voluntary association made up of the life and health insurance guaranty associations of all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

NOLHGA was founded in 1983 when the state guaranty associations determined that there was a need for a mechanism to help them coordinate their efforts to provide protection to policyholders when a life or health insurance company insolvency affects people in many states.
