Kane Community Hospital Achieves Stage 1 Meaningful Use with Healthland Electronic Health Records Solution

Healthland client to receive funding under Medicare EHR Incentive Program

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthland, America's market leader of healthcare information technology solutions for rural hospitals, today announced that Kane Community Hospital has achieved Stage 1 Meaningful Use. Kane Community Hospital, an affiliate of UPMC Hamot, is a 31-bed acute care rural hospital based in Kane, Pa. After a successful 90-day reporting period of its comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) capabilities, the hospital will receive funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

“We have been preparing for this level of EHR adoption in our hospital since March of 2009,” said J. Gary Rhodes, Kane Community Hospital CEO. “We knew federally mandated guidelines were inevitable and we wanted to be ahead of the curve, but even more importantly, we wanted to implement technology that enables us to deliver quality healthcare and a superior patient experience for our community. It was our vision to be one of the first healthcare providers in the area to achieve Meaningful Use. The combination of the Healthland EHR solution and support team with our internal multi-disciplinary technology team has made that vision a reality.”

Kane Community Hospital successfully completed the attestation of Stage 1 Meaningful Use achievement on July 5, 2011, at the conclusion of its 90-day EHR Reporting Period. Kane qualified for funding under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program after demonstrating Meaningful Use of certified EHR technology through the submission of data for 14 Core Set Objectives, 5 Menu Set Objectives and 15 Clinical Quality Measures via the CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) Attestation System.

“We are thrilled with our Stage 1 Meaningful Use achievement,” said Margaret Twidale, Kane Community Hospital I.T. Senior Manager, “It’s been a journey, but it has allowed us to deliver safe, patient care for our community and that is the most important benefit for all of us at Kane. The attestation process has really been a positive experience because we were prepared – we started early and had our entire team on board, starting with our administration. We also had the right EHR solution partner to help us every step of the way.”

“We are so proud to have Kane Community Hospital as a client,” said Angie Franks, Healthland president and CEO. “The staff at Kane truly represents what can be done in rural healthcare in the United States. Not only has the hospital reached a major milestone with Meaningful Use, but they have also been named a HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Hospital and have been included in Hospitals & Health Networks' prestigious 'Most Wired' list numerous times and most recently in 2011. These achievements ensure that Kane Community Hospital has the highest EHR functionality and capabilities to deliver the quality patient care their family, friends and neighbors deserve.”

“Healthland is currently helping hundreds of hospitals across the country care for their communities, achieve Meaningful Use and receive EHR incentive funds.”
